Description

Westminster Abbey has many identities – as a place of worship, theatre of state, resting place of kings and memorial to statesmen and poets. Internationally acclaimed artist Alexander Creswell captures its many facets in these stunning watercolours. The tranquility and shifting light of the Abbey’s cloisters, chapels and library are depicted here, along with the famous monuments of Poets’ Corner and spectacular views from the triforium. We also see moments in the life of the Abbey – from the celebration of the Eucharist to the warmth of a carol service, to the magnificent wedding of The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge. This beautiful book will be a treasured souvenir for anyone who has admired the sights and spirit of the Abbey.

Author information

Alexander Creswell (b. 1957) is an internationally acclaimed British artist, best known for the watercolours he painted for the Royal Collection depicting the fire at Windsor Castle and its subsequent restoration. His distinctive and completely self-taught watercolour style combines subtle colouring and skilful draughtsmanship with a strong reverence for natural light.
